War

Saving Private Ryan
This story of a search for the last surviving brother behind enemy lines in war-torn France is bookended by not only the best battle sequences in film history, but probably the most suspenseful of any movie I've watched. Brilliant. Full review.
The Great Escape
Steve McQueen is perfect as the charismatic and rebellious American soldier who joins in a massive escape attempt from a German POW camp. His motorcycle chase through the beautiful German countryside is one of the most memorable sequences in film history.
