Intriguing sci-fi action thiller loosely based on Isaac Asimov's tales of a future where robots co-exist with humans and obey the 3 Laws of Robotics (which are designed to protect humans and themselves, in that order). But what happens when one commits murder? Robot-phobic detective Smith investigates, with help from scientist Moynahan and hindrance from corporate honcho Greenwood. Never as exciting as the trailer suggests, but an enjoyable ride nonetheless, with excellent special effects. Smith's trademark humour is present, but he seems less comfortable without a male foil. One of director Proyas's (Dark City) "brighter" pictures.
